Gavin Rajah

Gavin Rajah’s new Jaipur collection during fashion week in Cape Town was highly anticipated as usual. So, I was surprised to see the presentation of this new, vibrant collection shown unfortunately in a rather ordinary fashion.

The way this collection was presented, distracted from the nuances of Gavin’s creations. The exit’s were higgledy piggeldy going from swimwear to evening wear, then to day wear…and back to evening wear, which left me and I am sure the audience confused…!? There was this fabulous long runway, a models dream, it should have been milked every step of the way, instead the models walked like ducks without any interpretation of the wonderful clothes they were wearing.

A fashion show is a complete eclectic moment in which the audience should be transported into a sensual understanding of the designer’s message.

There are many ways in which to interpret the designers message, for example, like an opera, the opening exit should have a huge impact on everyone, the music should be meaningful and relevant to the clothes, it should have a hypnotic flow that seduces the audience into submission with a grand finale in a crescendo of evening wear.

The impact of Gavin’s beautiful collection was lost and did not mirror the marvel of his sublime creativity as one of our fashion gurus.

The after party was delightful! My ‘Thirst’ was quenched with the marvelous cocktails that were shaken, not stirred, a spiced up taste of Jaipur that was simply delicious and my sweet tooth…. death by Lindt
