I like to think of Fairview as my little Cape Provence. From my point of view this enchanting spot for Sunday lunch or a mid-week drive has become one of my favourite summertime haunts.
Last month the B!’s-Knees arrived from Paris. We decided to try out a tasting experience to compare our taste buds and see how they differed (Quelle Surprise!).
First we chose to grade our cheese platter. We both loved the Vat No 3, which unfortunately is not for sale but available on the menu. The Cream Cheese with Chakalaka, I gave a 10, B!s-Knees gave it a 6. I loved the Chevre with Black Pepper & Paprika and gave it a 10, she gave it a 7. I loved the White Rock with Cranberries giving it a 10, she almost agreed with me and gave it a 9.
No matter what your taste is, the experience is fun and varied. Then we chose our main, a traditional Cape dish, the Waterbloomtjies (waterflowers) it was new to both of us and totally agreed that it was absolutely delicious!
Fairview’s cheese is excellent! Their wine is good, their menu traditional and on a grand scale, has the charm of ‘La Provence’! En fait! Compliments to the chef.
