Il Leone Mastrantonio

I have yet to come across an Italian who doesn’t have a passion for food. In an Italian home when it comes to eating, it’s all about getting it right. There’s a ritual in preparation, timing and tradition, even the water can alter the taste of pasta. The expression in Italian “A tavola!” means it’s time to eat; it’s time to savour the flavours of good food, which has been simply cooked using the best produce. Italians know the taste of good olive oil, mozzarella di bufala, homemade pasta, grilled fish, meat cooked to perfection with veggies; tastes that come through with very little fuss or bother.

A good Italian restaurant will have all of the above ingredients. Il Leone Mastrantonio is one of the best in Cape Town, with a history for authentic cooking. It’s always packed and busy with a great atmosphere and flair in decor for an Italian look. White table cloths, good art and a great bar. You could be sitting in Milano enjoying a true sensation in Italian cooking and culture.

Upstairs last week we celebrated a great friends birthday dinner, again it was simply divine and the right choice for a special occasion. Time and time again this well-known eat house comes up trumps and produces all the right dishes and I must confess – I am a fussy Italian Mama! When it comes to food Il Leone Mastrantonio, I can vouch for. Grazie!
