Laughter was the name of the game at our annual ladies tennis league breakfast. Standup comedian, Mary Steward, was in a league of her own hitting on points that we could all relate to. During her routine, she engaged the audience at a very personal level, which touched on the meaning of life, the trials and tribulations in growing up and the memories of the transition from girlhood to womanhood. Flipping in and out of character from girl to woman, Mary turned words of alchemy into tears of laughter and most definitely won her match on center court in thirty minuets flat – receiving a standing ovation!
Every year the responsibility to host the breakfast rears its head and becomes a challenge for that club. The Constantia tennis club pulled out at all the stops to raise funds for the Khayelitsha tennis club, which is in desperate need of assistance.
Constantia raised their game to another level of play and hit hard at gathering prizes and gifts for the various raffles that marked the occasion to raise the funds.
Donated by Veuve Clicquot, a bottle of bubbly and some Veuve Clicquot tennis balls got the ball rolling. The Dutch Manor Hotel gave a one night stand, 95 Keerom a candle lit dinner for two, while Susan Von Zahn gave a piece of her jewelry. Other fantastic prizes included a voucher from Auto Armour – a big thank you to Debbie Porter’s hubby – a set of headphones from our chairman Carlos, a tennis session with coach Jacky and a tennis racquet from coach Chris. Jacky and Chris are both resident coaches at Constantia tennis club. Plus – a pedi, a mani and a Dr. Hauschka facial from Lee Kieswetter and lots more!
On behalf of the Constantia tennis club we would like to thank all of you for your kind generosity. A special thanks must also go to our Chair lady Wendy Thompson for her relentless commitment to making our morning a great success. I would also like to thank the clubs who came to support – we raised a total of R12 500 and raised the bar for the future. See you on court ladies – it’s all about fun and games and, when winning to help others, becomes such a buzz!
