Sadly, despite many parallels with 1995 when the Boks stunned the favourites, New Zealand, at Ellis Park to win the World Cup, history was not repeated at Twickenham stadium on Saturday. Although the Boks were able to put up a tremendous fight against the All Blacks and neutralise their famous attack, victory eluded them. The atmosphere was electric, with most of the stadium seeming to cheer the Bokkies on through the driving rain, but in the end the All Blacks were just too strong and too consistent for the South Africans. Despite the heartbreak everyone who left Twickenham stadium on Saturday evening knew that the Springboks had given the match everything and had refused to surrender….
Back home in Cape Town, Cape Town Buzz had popped in at Micheals in Rondebosh for a meal and a gees-buzz for the semifinal. It was sad to see our boys defeated after such a valiant effort, but the same goes for all of the teams that were knocked out during this exciting tournament.
I am positive the All Blacks will continue to be unbeatable and they deserve to win. However, with the raw talent and exciting young players in the current Springboks team, I know we will be back!
