SOTHERN WIND
I was honored when I was asked to Christen a Swiss friends 102 footer yacht. Southern Wind Shipyard in Cape Town has built this magnificent customised luxury racing yacht and after completion she will set sail for the Med. Here I am standing in the belly of Seawave in the making, from birth to berth and then her christening……
Distinguished guests, the MEC for transport Mr. Grant, dear Willy, ladies and gentlemen, boat builders. I am delighted to welcome you here on behalf of my dear friend the owner, on this very special occasion.
I, Tracy Paulucci de Calboli am honored and privileged to be the Godmother of this magnificent masterpiece, which encompasses the essence of our LOVE for the sea. This yacht is the fulfillment of a dream; this project has been nothing short of a thrilling example of what happens when a group of passionate people – South Africans and Italians – with a shared vision, combines their efforts in creating harmony.
For thousands of years we have gone to sea. We have crafted vessels to carry us through the oceans and we have called them by name. This yacht will nurture and care for us and so we affectionately call her “she”. Today, we assemble to name this lady and send her to sea to be cared for and to care for her family.
We ask the sailors of old and the mood of God, that is the sea, to accept her and help her through her passages and allow her to return safely to harbor.
Christening a boat is a tradition that has ancient roots throughout history; sailors have known that the sea is a powerful element and that the christening at the launch is meant to bring luck to her and all those on board.
Almighty God we call upon you to bless those who will cross her bow and to protect and preserve those who sail on her and surround them with your loving care. The sea is formed by waves that resonate with the moon the sun and the winds. Throw off the bowlines, sail away, and catch the trade winds in your sails…. explore; dream; discover.
I hereby name you SEAWAVE.
