BALLET

In the late 18th and early 19th century a Romantic pas de deux developed involving closer physical contact, ballerinas pointing on their toes in the hands of their partners. As the 19th century progressed the form became a showcase for the skills of the increasingly sophisticated ballerina.

As a follow up from Sleeping Beauty, the diversity of this evening at the Artscape, with talented male soloists, principal dancers and a well-rehearsed corps de ballet, all show casing a variety of different techniques giving the audience s taste of many of the great ballets from the last century. There was a good mix of pas de deux ranging from technical classical ballet numbers, to more contemporary inclined influence. The costumes contributed to the feel and mood of the ballet and the lighting enhanced the atmosphere.
