LONDON – TATE BRITAIN
The Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Tate Liverpool and Tate St Ives form a network of art Museums across the UK. This amazing institution hosting both classical and contemporary art continues to hold the interest of the public. The Tate Britain is the oldest gallery in the network, having opened in 1897 and houses a substantial collection of UK artworks with pieces by the likes of J.M.W.Turner and Henry Moore. The latter of these two British art heavyweights I love, so I made a point of popping into Moore’s room at the Tate Britain while milling around.
The flavor of the month was British pop artist David Hockney – well known for his bright swimming pools, landscapes and Californian split-level homes. Hockney delighted in deliberately breaking all the rules by deconstructing proportions. His work shows that orthodoxies are meant to be broken.
Another recent exhibition at the Tate Britain is the work of English feminist and radical activist, Margaret Harrison. Her overtly feminist perspective comes across in her raunchy and sometimes bizarre artwork. She combines the look of comic-book superheroes and a gusty twist on Vargas style pin-ups to drive the message home. She fought hard for women’s rights and forty years ago her one-woman feminist art show was shut down after one day, on the grounds of indecency.
Today I am showcasing my own personal photos with my interpretation of my experience at the Tate Britain.
