WORLD CUP FRENZY

Abuzz from the Past! Center Stage at the 2010 World Cup
When we hosted the World Cup in 2010, many thought it would be an impossible mission. Could we pull it off? Could we really do this? In the middle of a South African winter, would the crowds come and make the journey?
There’s something truly special about South Africa when it comes to sport. It’s this unique energy called Gees—a deep, all-in spirit that comes from within. It’s the moment when South Africans unite on common ground. To be or not to be? It’s the Gees that wins every time.
Our police and security forces also rose to the occasion. They did a stellar job keeping both visitors and locals safe—a world-class effort, and proudly South African.
The Fan Walk pulsed with energy as crowds moved from point to point, heading toward Green Point Stadium for kickoff. Teams went head-to-head under intense pressure and pouring rain. Yet, day in and day out, the crowds came and went, their spirit unshaken. The buzzing vuvuzelas and the Mexican wave carried the excitement like a tidal surge, turning every match into an unforgettable experience.
In the end, victory in 2010 belonged to Spain.
