Paragliding in for lunch

Hiking up Lion’s Head to the launching pad is no easy feat. Before starting the 25-minute climb, do yourself a favor—buy a bottle of water and an energy bar from the ground staff at the shack. You’ll thank yourself once you get going. It’s hot, and the trail is unforgiving. I keep telling myself, “You’re almost there! You can do it!”
Manu Wegmershaus and his team from Cape Town Tandem Paragliding (www.paraglide.co.za) are racing against time, making the most of the ideal flying conditions.
By the time we reach Lion’s Head launch site, the idea of paragliding feels surreal. But wait—this is real, and there’s no backing out now! I’m about to leap off a mountain and fly. My pilot, Manu, has years of experience, so I take a deep breath and remind myself: Relax, QueenB! Enjoy the ride.
I’m about to get high in the sky—an adrenaline junkie’s dream.
The most intense moment? Waiting for the wind. When it finally picks up, everything happens in a flash. Within seconds, we’re soaring and gliding like birds. WOW!
And just like that…
The QueenB! has landed.
Feet firmly on the ground, I thank Manu and the Cape Town Tandem Paragliding team for an unforgettable, buzz-worthy experience. Then, it’s off to lunch at The Bungalow.
The Bungalow is all about relaxed elegance with a perfect view. Its summery, fresh exterior blends seamlessly with an edgy, modern interior. The loungers on the terrace? Ideal for sunset watching—because when that golden moment happens, there’s no better way to end the day.
When Paul Kovensky bought this ocean-facing spot, he had a vision: to transform La Med into something spectacular. I just hope it stays that way and never turns into… La Mediocre.
QueenB!… Abuzzing off.
